Having hope has a profound effect upon our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Having no hope is equally impacting.
I frequently bring up the idea of hope in couples therapy sessions. In nearly every case, the two partners have differing levels of hope. Sometimes there is none at all. I can't remember where I first heard someone say this, but I like it and I use it -- "I know you are having trouble being hopeful. That's OK. Let me carry the hope for a while. "
Is hope a struggle for you?
