Deciding to look into counseling for yourself or someone you care about is a big step. Congratulations on having the courage to do that. I hope this website provides some of the information you are looking for. Please call me at 615-890-7045 or send an email to mary.witt123 [at] gmail.com if you have additional questions or would like to schedule an appointment. My office is in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
I provide individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and premarital counseling from a Christian perspective. If the client prefers a non-faith-based viewpoint, I will honor their wishes. We will discuss this at the first appointment.
What makes Marriage and Family Therapy different?
The hallmark of Marriage and Family Therapy is the approach. We don't look at an individual in isolation. Instead, we ask about and consider the multitude of relationships that surround people. For example, if a 40-year-old woman comes to my office to talk about her struggle with depression, I will ask about her husband, children, siblings, parents, co-workers, neighbors, etc (where applicable). I believe depression is probably affecting her relationships -- and her relationships are also having an impact on her depression.
With couples, I look at the patterns of interaction that have developed over time. There are often areas where the couple feels disconnected or at odds. Through marital therapy we work together to find new ways of interacting that create a stronger sense of unity, teamwork, and emotional intimacy.
